Our Vision

To institute an attentive care centre for the mentally ill destitute and abandoned women.

Our Mission

To provide protection and loving care and rehabilitate them to their respective homes and to bring them to the mainstream of society by enhancing their mental and physical health.

Our History

Started in a small rented house at Chathannoor, Kollam,Kerala on 30 April 2003 with a paralysed, abandoned mother, by Sr. Deepthi, a committed sister, with her farsightedness sheltered more than 3000 ladies and now housing 180 mothers and sisters.

About Us

Karunalayam is a community based home and we promote recovery, community integration and improved quality of life for members who have been diagnosed with a mental behavioural health condition that significantly impairs their ability to lead meaningful lives. The staff help them to maintain a climate of healthy-mental, physical, social and strengthen the normal capacities. We make them aware of their duties and responsibilities in their capacities. We educate and alleviate the social isolation experienced by the mentally ill in communities. Our counselling effectively helping them to improve their self-concept. Psychiatric care team allowing the inmates to maintain contact with their families and make bridges between the inmates and their families. The multi-disciplinary team regularly doing counselling, recreational activities, home visiting, educational and vocational programs, religious activities, social skill training etc. help them to eliminate social stigma and bring them to the mainstream in society.
